Nether & travel

Seed page — to be expanded.

Portal math

  • 1 nether block = 8 overworld blocks. Build nether-side hub tunnels and the overworld shrinks by 8×.
  • To link portals deliberately: divide the overworld X/Z by 8, build the nether portal at those coordinates. Portals link to the nearest existing portal within range — misplaced portals cause "wrong exit" surprises.
  • A portal frame needs only 10 obsidian (corners can be anything) — a water bucket + lava lake casts a frame with zero diamond pickaxe.

Survival notes

  • Fire Resistance potions turn the nether from lethal to casual — brew with nether wart + magma cream.
  • Bring: flint & steel (ghasts blow out portals), building blocks for bridging, a slab/cobble roof against ghasts on highways.
  • Don't sleep — beds explode in the nether. (Respawn anchors work instead.)
  • Hoglins fear warped fungus; piglins are neutral if you wear any gold armor piece.

Fast travel

  • Ice + boat: packed/blue ice boats hit ~40–70 blocks/s — the standard nether-highway design is a 2-wide blue-ice lane with a slab roof.
  • Elytra + firework rockets is endgame travel; until then, nether hubs beat overworld roads.
